Temporary Naturalist Position, Spring
Desert Tortoise Natural Area, Kern County, California

The Desert Tortoise Preserve Committee staffs a Naturalist at the Desert Tortoise Natural Area (DTNA) for three months each spring. The Committee seeks applications for the Naturalist position at the DTNA each spring. The Naturalist will be stationed at the DTNA's Interpretive Center from mid-March until early June each year. Duties include interacting with the public, leading tours, and providing information on the area's natural history and background, tortoise biology, threats to the tortoise and the Mojave Desert ecosystem, and the role that the Desert Tortoise Preserve Committee plays. Applicants are encouraged to submit their resume, a cover letter, and three references by e-mail dtpc@pacbell.net or by fax (951) 683 6949.

Volunteer Opportunities &
Work Parties

Each spring and fall, DTPC hosts its popular work parties. Groups of 20-30 volunteers from all over California gather to spend a weekend maintaining tortoise preserve facilities and to enjoy a close encounter with the Mojave Desert.
